There is life on the water.

“A ship in harbor is safe — but that is not what ships are built for.” — John A. Shedd.

Our Programs

We offer several programming options for youth and mentors, staff, business teams and volunteers. Each sail is customized to the needs of your group. Get the conversation started by completing the associated form. We look forward to facilitating your next life-giving risk.

(Sound on!) Internship pilot program: Our youth were trained intensively for three days in all the aspects of running a Carpe Ventus MentorStrong introductory sail. Youth learned to set up, run an on shore safety briefing, dockside orientation, teach their peers to sail and coach through the topic of discussion as well as debrief the experience.

Mentor:Strong Sail

This backbone program is offered to youth sailing with their mentors. Conversation is facilitated around a structured theme. This theme is chosen by the partner organization so that we can reinforce strengths and add support to the weaknesses they are experiencing in any given season of relationships with their youth.

Theme offerings include:

  • Risk Taking

  • Perspective

  • Teamwork

  • Cultural Differences

  • Communication

  • Faith & Words

  • Faith & Fear

  • Faith & Trust

GroundworkS

Working to make change in the lives of young people in our city is becoming increasingly hard as our world becomes more polarized. Barriers are manifest on street corners and neighborhood lines. We feel the implicit and explicit rules that say you aren’t safe, you don’t belong, they don’t belong. It’s becoming all too easy to insulate ourselves to our own viewpoints, people and perspectives.

We host this session because we believe that there is a way through this cultural divide. There is a way to authentically know ourselves and grow to know others. It is possible to walk through the painful tension and come out more connected and supported to do our work.

Upcoming Session: January 26, 2019

Eventbrite - Carpe Ventus Groundworks - January 26, 2019

Can’t make the next session? We host groundworks two times a year. Complete the interest form and we will keep you in the loop of our next opportunity. If you are interested in hosting a private session for your workplace, please contact us.

Staff:Recharge

Ever plug in your phone at night only to discover in the morning it is not charged because the other end was not plugged in? As program organizers you’re putting 100% into serving your youths and working with your staff to make your city a better place. What do you do when the battery level is low and you still need a team that can actively jump into the work.

To strengthen mentoring is to also strengthen the staff running the organizations that make it possible. Over the years, we have realized that to truly strengthen the impact of these organizations, we need to come around them from as many angles as possible. It’s time to recharge - let’s get off the grid and onto the water.

Team:Vision Sail

Your team’s outing directly benefits our work in partnership with at-risk youth mentoring organizations. This gives you an opportunity to invest in learning about our mission and vision as well as invest in your relationships with one another.

It’s no secret that something significant happens when a team breaks out of their routine and plays together. The fun and challenges of sailing create a phenomenal environment for building strong relationships in your group. When teams connect on a personal level, trust, communication and productivity all improve.
